Old Man Yells At Cloud: “Remakes” vs “Remasters” vs “Ports”

So, what is it with people (Nintendo included) seemingly not getting the difference between a full on remake, and a remaster or port? And speaking of ports, I’ve even seen goofballs calling virtual console games  “ports” *cough*Dan Ryckert*cough*. Now I know this isn’t some huge deal (hence the title), but c’mon man. Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD and the 3DS versions of Ocarina and Majora’s Mask don’t really count as “remakes” to me.

You know what does? The Gamecube remake of Resident Evil, THAT’S a remake. Completely redone but with the same story as the original.

The 3DS versions of the Zelda games are more like remasters, they’re the same games essentially but with enhanced graphics and some fixes for the biggest annoyances in the originals. Wind Waker HD is a remaster, and so is Twilight Princess HD.

Going back to the virtual console thing, VC games aren’t ports. So people complaining about Nintendo “releasing the same game over and over again” when they put a game on the VC is dumb.

I don’t even know what the point of this post is, but it’s all I could manage in my current sleep-deprived state.

That’s all, now get off my lawn!

He's been playing video games his entire life, and has gotten progressively worse at them as he's gotten older and more decrepit. He's been running this place (into the ground) since 2013. He's old. Keeps writing about Nintendo despite mountains of evidence proving he should never write anything. Very old. Lifelong Nintendo fan, doesn't care what you think about that. Did I mention how old he is? Because he's very old.
